Right. He's frustrated. She should be sympathetic.]
I just can't believe that of anyone, you would have so much trouble befriending a chocobo. You look just alike!
[Okay, forget sympathetic.]
Relax.
[She makes her way over to join him, laying a hand against his shoulder.]
They can probably sense how frustrated you are, and that puts them on edge. Animals can pick up on these things!

excuse him?
he looks nothing like a chocobo. his jaw slacks in that way that shows... yeah, he was born in a backwoods town in the middle of nowhere and lacks the refinement or tact to play something like that off skillfully. wait. no. he should try.
Aerith brings out good things in him.]
I never got along well with my peers.
[there's a hand at his shoulder, and he holds out the greens as a peace offering to beg her never to call him chocobian in nature again.]
You think so? [he looks out over the haphazard tracks all over the field, the giant silo still visible even this far in the distance.] Okay, so what's the plan?

Well, there's a first time for everything!
[She'll help him learn to play nice with his wild cousins— but she gingerly takes the greens from him, accepting them for the peace offering they are.]
Perseverance is the key— but we do make a pretty good team. If we can use the lure to get their attention again, maybe I can get close and do the feeding? They might not find me as... prickly.
[She's not just talking about his hair this time.]

but as they say, idle hands and the devil, something, something. now that the greens are out of his hands, he reaches back into his buster sword to pull out the violet orb of materia, weighty and illuminating all the same in his grasp. it acts like a homing beacon of sorts, brightly pulsating with a calm light when there are chocobos around, and right now it's looking like a tacky disco ball that had been left in the basement of Don Corneo's mansion.]
Low blow.
[not the good team part.
wait, shit. they do make a good team. from a statistical analysis, of course. the range and close quartered combat styles are always perfect for knocking the wind out of everything they come in contact with. and... the mechanical hands. and pretty much everything else they've had to deal with.
he looks over at Aerith.]
This any way to treat your bodyguard?
[he's not letting go of that, either.]
... I'll keep my distance this time.

My apologies.
[She sounds sincere, but not particularly serious, a smile still pulling at her lips. The lure materia is doing its job, at least, and a chocobo can be spotted in the distance, hesitant about its approach, but watching them from afar. It will be along soon enough, but it's probably not a good idea to be so obvious about the fact that they're waiting for it.]
You've been an excellent bodyguard— the chocobos just haven't had the chance to get to know you like I have!
[It's not like there's anything wrong with him!]
