[The surprise in her voice is genuine, and while she trusts Cloud to know his own life (lol), it doesn't quite add up for her. She lets out a soft hum before shaking her head in response.]

No, I don't think that's quite right. I can tell, she cares a lot about you.

[There's no note of teasing now, only honesty.]

You guys have a real bond!

[Whoa, Aerith, he's totally within his right mind and never has any issues whatsoever hdu lol at him.

Her comments have him confused. Isn't she- doesn't she - what? His memory of the dream or whatever it could be called is still clear in his mind, Aerith insisting he not fall in love with her. But then she flirts, so does that mean she has feelings for him?

But then...she's mentioning he has a bond with Tifa. She encouraged him to go after her in Wall Market. So, is she rooting for him and Tifa?

What are his feelings on the matter? He has no idea. He just knows what's in front of him and in the moment. For now, that's what he can focus on.

But still...these two women in his life have him baffled at every turn. Especially this one. ]

Maybe. [It's one word but his expression says so much more. Dammit, Aerith. ] I think it's more...complicated than you're making it out to be.

[These are all excellent questions, some that Aerith might do well to actually ask herself, but at his response, she lets out another soft 'hmm' and considers for a moment before she inches closer, their shoulders now brushing against one another as she quite literally moves to sit beside him.]

I just mean that if you've been friends since you were kids, that means something, doesn't it?

Even if that's all it is, that's still caring about someone. You wanted to save her, just like you saved me. If you think that doesn't mean something, does that mean saving me wasn't that 'complicated,' either?

[ It's rare that anyone truly enters his personal space - except Aerith, who seems to make it a habit of doing so. He gives her a slightly startled look before realized how stupid that probably seemed, and he sighs. He can't say he doesn't mind the attention, in fact it makes him feel more likely to fumble with his words than anything.

Forcing himself to relax, there is obvious tension in his shoulders that won't quite go away. ]

I think it means she probably has something embarrassing she can say about me. [ A hand goes up to scratch at his head, wondering how the hell anyone manages to look cool when dealing with someone who can be so unpredictable. ] Look, saving anyone isn't complicated, it's...it's the right thing to do.

[Long lost is that man only out for the gil - he has connections now. No escaping them. ]

[Personally, she hopes so, but she makes an effort not to laugh openly at the prospect. He's uncomfortable, she should probably throw him a bone and go a little easier on him.

[He knows she's teasing him and he frowns at her. It's not as harsh as he wants, though - because deep inside yeah, being heroic is what he's always wanted to be. Even if she might be making fun of him.

Her appreciation makes him feel self conscious, that's for sure. How the hell he expected to strut into Midgar and be able to become a hero, preening under attention and admiration, is beyond him.

He really had been a stupid kid.]

You think maybe you can stay out of trouble for a few days, then? [Might as well give what he gets, right? ] Gotta make sure Barret doesn't get us thrown out of town as soon as we get to Kalm, and I don't feel like babysitting both of you.

[She lays a hand over her heart, as though prepared to swear the most solemn oath.]

I'll do my very best! You can count on me.

[She'd like to think she's at least proven herself reliable, even with her nose for getting into scrapes.]

I do have to wonder how people will react to him once we get to Kalm... oh, or Red.

[They're certainly an interesting group.]

I wouldn't know from experience, but you don't see a lot of groups like ours out and about, do you? We're... kind of easy to spot.

[Hmm. Not great if they're being followed.]

[ That's a bridge they will have to cross when they get there. Red seems inclined to keep his nose out of the more dramatic type of trouble Barret jumps into, thankfully. Maybe he'll stay back and they can smuggle him into a room?

Cloud feels completely out of his element here. They all probably do. ]

That's true. [Glancing at her, he notes the bright ribbon in her hair, and his lips curve up into the smallest smirk. ] Doesn't help when we have some who run around in bright colors. Makes it hard to blend in.

[She follows his gaze towards her hair, then reaches back to close her hand around the base of her braid for a moment, letting the ribbon catch between her fingers.]

What, this?

[Her smile quirks to one side.]

The ribbon is non-negotiable! And so is the dress— I look good in pink, you know.

[She's been told so!]

We could probably make our weapons a little less conspicuous somehow, though?

[Excuse you, Aerith, he's been doing a great job of pretending he's the only one who doesn't stand out.

Calling him out like this...how can he continue to live in denial? His mouth curves up in one corner, a smirk, as he lays a hand on the handle of his sword. Always there, just at his side.]

Not everyone has a retractable weapon like some of us. [The truth is this - Tifa is the only normal one in their party.] You find me a sword that does it, I'll get it.

[He doubts she'll come across it, but call it a challenge.]

You wear anything that isn't pink?

[Sorry, Cloud, you’ll need to face the truth sometime!]

My jacket is red.

[Very matter-of-fact— and only partly answering his question.]

There must be something to hide your sword in. Don’t they make cases for them or something?

[Scabbards. She means scabbards.]

[He gives Aerith his most deadpan expression. He's not even gonna comment on her correcting him on her color choices because yeah it's red but pink is in that color family.

Not that he's an expert. Which is exactly why he doesn't mention it.]

Or something. [Blandest reply ever. Is he...teasing her? Maybe. His eyes aren't quite pulling off what he's trying to sell, here.] Don't think something like this can fit on my hip, though.

[The pat he gives his sword can only be described as affectionate.]

[She scrunches her face at him in reply, nose wrinkling. She hears that tone in your voice, sir.]

You could still wear it on your back! It just won't draw as much attention if it's not... you know. Out there.

She eyes that affectionate pat suspiciously.]
